When do you need a licence?

A licence is mandatory if the painting work is part of a building or construction project valued at over $3,300 (including labour and materials). This licence authorises you to legally perform professional painting and decorating work on residential, commercial, and industrial sites.

For smaller jobs under $3,300 or basic maintenance painting, a licence is not required. However, holding a licence allows you to operate as a licensed contractor, bid on larger projects, and ensures compliance with Queensland building laws.
