The construction industry is one of Australia’s fastest-growing sectors, employing an estimated 1.18 million people as of 2022. Over the next two years, this is expected to increase by approximately 6.7%.
We’ve conducted thorough research on the highest-earning roles within the Australian construction industry as of 2023.

 

1. CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT $185,000 – $205,000
Construction Superintendents oversee the entire construction process while working on-site with tradies. They are also in charge of hiring and interviewing trades.

2. CONSTRUCTION MANAGER $165,000 – $185,000
Construction Managers oversee work schedules, coordinate subcontractors, determine material and labour costs, report site progress, and ensure safety codes are met and that the project is on track.

3. PROJECT MANAGER $125,000 – $145,000
Project Managers oversee the planning and delivery of a project. They ensure the project is completed on time within the designated budget. They are focused on logistics, delegate work, and keep track of spending.

4. CRANE OPERATOR $115,000 – $135,000
Crane Operators lift and move heavy objects throughout a construction site, mines, docks, or other sites. Operators must ensure the area around the crane is safe, the crane itself is working properly, and the load weight is appropriate.

5. FOREPERSON $115,000 – $135,000
This role is focused on scheduling, coordinating, and supervising all on-site work. They also manage equipment, materials, budget and assist in delivering the project on time.

6. CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER $105,000 – $125,000
Construction Engineers are responsible for the design and safety of scaffolds and other temporary structures used. They also ensure projects are built in accordance with plans and specs.

7. SITE SUPERVISOR $105,000 – $125,000
Site Supervisors oversee the progress of a project ensuring compliance and safety regulations are met.

8. CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR $85,000 – $105,000
This role focuses on preparing and delivering estimates and cost plans for projects and the tender settlement stage.

9. SAFETY OFFICER $85,000 – $100,000
Safety Officers ensure workplace safety, assess risks, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

10. BUILDER $70,000 – $90,000
A Builder oversees and coordinates construction work. They supervise, excavate, demolish, renovate, and work on homes and commercial or industrial builds.
